Spas is a hunter of Twilights. A killer. He, along with four others, are given new orders to exterminate all Twilights: man, woman, and child. While fighting those able to fight and witnessing the glee with which his fellow hunters hurt helpless children, Spas begins to doubt. Are Twilights really all monsters? If not, what does that make him?

I've only read volumes 2 through 4 (out of seven) Gangsta., but that gives me a good feel for the setting, conflicts, politics, and powers in this series. Cursed. is a three volume spin-off series that is focuses on Marco Adriano, a member of the Christiano Family (a mafia of sorts) before he became Marco -- when he was known as Spas. If you haven't read any of the original, you can jump in here, but you'll be missing out on a ton of backstory that is necessary to enjoy this volume. Otherwise, this volume is just page after page of fighting and killing.

That said, it's really, really exciting fighting and killing. Each of the hunters are so different with their skills and weapon of choice, not to mention their personalities. The Twilights who fight them are no less engaging, and I liked seeing the build in strength of the opposition as the volume progressed. I also like that it's a progression of Spas seeing and experiencing things that causes him to become confused and doubting. I was pleasantly surprised by how attached I got to the Twilights Chester and Eva. I wanted to cry at their outcome (and it's handled perfectly), but I also want to know more about them. They're supposed to a have a father / daughter vibe, but I got more of a deep and intimate love (not lovers, just intimate and personal).

Cursed. has a new artist, but they do an excellent job of staying true to the original style. If anything, it's a bit cleaner and more refined. They do an excellent job with pacing, layout, and action. The gore is nicely done without being overdone, including Spas's wires, which cut people into pieces. There are fun extras at the end of this volume, including four comic strips and an introduction to the new artist.

A powerful and violent volume that definitely leaves me wanting more. I like that this mini-series is a backstory for one of the characters that also expands our view of this world.
