Ennay hooks up with another Shaper, Clench, who has a kid Shaper in tow. The Cumpa Crew are closing in on Ennay, but Clench's double-cross lands him in deep trouble instead.

This issue opens by concluding the cliffhanger from the previous issue, and I love that Ennay and Bud only interfere enough to level the playing field, allowing the woman and her god to get their own revenge.

This issue fills us in on a ton of cultural aspects surrounding Godshapers, including more insight into how society sees and treats them (complete with a Klan-type hunt), as well as how they are raised and trained on the road. It's an incredible worldview that makes me exceedingly curious to know more, especially with such interesting characters.

Bud isn't very active in this issue, but we still learn more about him, including that he's a real mystery. I like that Bud likes getting shaped by the kid. His unusual permanence allows him to help in this way, and the pleasure he gets makes him seem more human than god from the little we've seen ... which is quite intriguing. I'm not sure if Bud doesn't trust Clench, doesn't like Ennay getting intimate with others, or both. It's an interesting bit of possessiveness on Bud's part that Ennay seems oblivious to.

There's a full page of two men making love (nothing pornographic, mind you). I'm surprised! I'm impressed! And neither are stereotypically attractive, and they're different races, which gives it a dose of realism! The narration is insightful about how the world views their "promiscuity", pointing out that "loneliness ain't no excuse."

The Cumpa Crew (a mob) add a whole new depth to the storyline and Ennay's background. They also spell serious trouble, which should make for some exciting reads coming up -- much like this issue.

The artwork has completely won me over. The color palette is so different and unique, but it really works, especially with the slight fantasy edge of this dystopian world.

A fascinating new series that has my full attention!
