Shun and the other Far East Branch AEGIS agents find themselves upstaged by a trio of more experienced agents the HQ deemed necessary to send over. They bring with them four mecha suits used to amplify their abilities better than the older modles Shun and his team use. But what happens when these three may not be enough to handle the Invaders? And what becomes of the fourth suit? You'll have to watch to find out.

Gatekeepers is an interesting anime. I wish I hadn't jumped in at episode 13, but it was easy enough to grasp the plot and enjoy the story. The plot is the usual good guys must stop the bad guys which also happen to be, for the most part, alien. But, Gatekeepers has a twist that gives it it's name. The effects used to create the gates and the twist in their eyes is very cool (and unusual!). There is no good way to explain their eyes when they are opening their gates, but that alone is worth a viewing of this anime.

All of the characters have major eigos, but in one way or another, they all get them deflated which enables the viewer to either sympathize, or at the very least, tolerate some of them. The enemies, on the other hand, are not that impressive. Strange and a little mad? Yes. But, impressive? No.

The voice actors for both the Japanese and English are good and fit their characters well in most cases. Some of the English ones are better than others at matching the character.

Sadly, Gatekeepers is not an anime for the mecha lover, despite it having giant robots in it. The focus is on the kids that open the gates rather than the machines (robot or otherwise) they use to amplify their gate. So, Gatekeepers is interesting, but it is one you can live without.
