Goldie figures out how to prove it was Sugar's sister, Red. Things escalated quickly, but, unlike previous Goldie arcs, this was rather believable, especially since the FBI connection has already been established.
I enjoyed seeing the pit crew (minus the "helpful" saboteur), Goldie, and Sugar go over every inch of Sugar's car looking for possible "bad" sabotage. It sets it up nicely for the twist, while showing that Sugar has grown through this experience, and that her crew wholly support her. The twist with how the sabotage happens during the race is brilliant. It allows for remote detonation, and it involves a piece of the car that wouldn't have been inspected in the same way as all the important moving pieces.
I love that everyone, including Goldie's friends and coworkers, pitched in to help keep an eye out for suspicious people during the race. It, and the scene at the end where the staff of the resort are gathered around the radio, creates a sense of community -- and of family. I also love that Sugar was listening in to the conversation between her dad and Goldie. I don't think either realized it, but even if Goldie did, it wouldn't have changed what she said, which is great in that it's genuine and shows the truth of what she said.
I appreciate seeing the physical toll this case is taking on Goldie. I'm glad her friends are there to help her, but I hope that, as she continues to grow as a detective, that she learns to at least take power naps or something.
I love that, while it was a tragic way for it to come about, Sugar and her father are closer and have hope of staying that way, especially with the new additions to their family. I love that Sugar does right by all those who helped her -- mostly Goldie and her dad, and their reactions to this are priceless.
The court scene is eye-opening in a few ways, but I was so proud of how Sugar handled herself. Outside with the reporters, though, she was more the confident rich girl we're familiar with. The news coverage of the whole thing surprised me at first, but considering the events that happened, the prestige of the Maple family, and that the FBI was involved, it's a big deal.
Interestingly, Sugar is written out of the story (for now at least), though the end of this issue suggests Red's role may be just beginning.
Overall, this is a great issue, and an especially great conclusion to this arc. If I wasn't already in love with this series, I would be after reading this issue. I want more!
