Thanks to Himari, Aoi remembers his past and is able to transform back to his human form from the Nue form. They throw a party with yokai fireworks. Himari learns something about her name.

I'm satisfied with the overall outcome of this mini-arc. We have a fuller understanding of Aoi's past, but more than that, his shikigami (especially Ise) have a better understanding about why Aoi's human side is important (in general, and to Aoi). Unfortunately, we don't learn anything further about Kasha's wager with Nue. It seems like Nue "won", but Kasha also got what he wanted, and none of that is clear. I'm not even sure what the point of the wager or Kasha's involvement even was! Other than to maybe push Nue's buttons. But to what end?

The party is mostly filler, but it includes some of the insight by the shikigami about Aoi, and a little insight into Himari's parents and name. I appreciate these insights and hope there's more to come for Himari. Unlike volume 8, I can see how the information will play to the larger plot (now that we have a more complete understanding). I especially like her interactions with Ise, which almost seems like flirting. He seems to have learned quite a bit as well, including the impact of his role years ago with Aoi's family. It's also the most "shojo" section, with a romantic end to this volume. The yokai fireworks are a neat touch that really amp the ending. With a confession like there is at the end, I hope for great things while expecting awkward humor, but as long as the plot movement picks back up I'll be happy.
