Credits Writer: Simon Spurrier Penciler: Jonas Goonface Inker: Jonas Goonface Colorist: Jonas Goonface Letterer: Colin Bell Cover Artist: Jonas Goonface Grade: 9 Ennay and Bud think they've escaped the strange woman on the TV screen who knows Bud, but trouble follows them. When the rag-tag group of outcasts are at a Cantick concert Ennay is performing at, Demonstrators arrive. The mysterious woman is behind it, but when they can't get Bud, they'll settle for Ennay.
A large chunk of this issue is Ennay talking, but what he's saying is very important on a few levels. It's his ideals and how he sees the world at large and the world in the Cantick bubble. Unfortunately, Ennay thinks to highly of those who come to listen and party with him. It's one big, happy, promiscuous party until someone announces he's a Shaper .... Ennay's thoughts on bullies are even shown to be true in a cruel twist.
I'm curious about the mystery woman and what she knows about Bud, but I'm even more curious why Bud doesn't want to go with her. My guess at the moment is that he was an experiment, and she's not through using him. Bud and Ennay combine to fight against the Demonstrators to save Sal, which is wicked cool and makes for a great fight scene. It's also interesting what things Ennay sees in Bud's mind and the trip it sends Ennay on. The Demonstartors are something new, and seem to function kind of like police ... dirty police that can be bought.
It's fascinating how much we learn in this issue about this society ... and the unfortunate parallels to our own. It's a fantastic read! Powerful, well-plotted, and with art infused with energy and colors making statements.
