Grade: 9

Quince faces her first supervillain! (Never mind that said individual insists they are actually an aniti-hero -- actions speak louder than labels.) Lupe's family may want to be supportive, but sometimes helping can be a hindrance.

I love the cover on this one -- the big, round, neon-green face with Quince curled up in a fetal position perfectly and powerfully projects fear. I love the green lighting effect throughout the issue too. And I love how the dripping green on the mask reminds me of the scene where the Evil Queen makes the poison apple in Disney's Snow White. Already this person shows they can stand their ground with Lupe, and they have an axe to grind, are reckless, seem perfectly willing to hurt others ... and now know who Lupe is. How can they follow through on the threat to reveal her identity, so she becomes a lab rat, though? I mean, she likewise knows who they are, and thus could do the same in return! A good start, but it remains to be seen if this person is a true threat -- or just how much of a wrench Lupe's siblings will prove to be (and to which side).
