Credits Grade: 7 Mirai and Saki are candidates to replace God -- and so is murderer Metropoliman. Who is the newcomer at their door, and whose side is this guy on? Meanwhile, Metropoliman has enlisted a serial killer to help him lure and kill other God candidates.On the whole, I like what I see -- interesting concept, mostly appealing art, and interesting discussions about morality and personal worth. I especially like the newcomer; he has a compelling story, is deliciously angsty, and is wonderfully thoughtful. Metropoliman shows potential too -- he's the sort of villain who sees himself as the good guy, and even seems to have a friend (who is just as demented). And the cover has a beautiful prismatic effect going on. I would have given this volume an eight based on all that. Unfortunately, the volume includes a rather horrible character: the serial killer. The problem isn't that she's a serial killer, or even that she's a lesbian; the problem is that her villainy is specifically connected to her sexuality (what I consider to be a harmful trope). Worse, she gets into a sexual situation with a middle-schooler (her typical target), and it's presented in a titillating way, not just as horror. On the upside, I think she's a temporary villain; hopefully other volumes won't include such a squick-y sub-plot, as it's a series I otherwise would like to read more of. Written: August 19, 2017
