Abuela finds it suspicious, which leads to her and Lupe having words about her responsibilities vs. prom / her birthday. Also, has someone discovered her alter-ego??
Note: I read a review PDF, but when this story sees physical print, there is a word balloon that may be very difficult to read that way. (As a person with a vision issue that can't be corrected with glasses, addressing this kind of thing is very important to me, something people without vision problems tend to take for granted.) But that's my only negative criticism -- and really, if enlarging something can help someone with a vision issue, then this situation can be addressed by buying the digital version rather than the eventual print. Otherwise, I really loved this issue!
There's a lot of emotional heft to this issue in a compact number of pages! What a great arc to explore how the disparate parts of a superhero's life! I'm excited for the big reveal, and how that might affect things moving forward.
Meanwhile, I sympathise to some extent with both Abuela and Lupe's views. On the one hand, people's lives are more important than a dance, but on the other, we cannot expect anyone to give up their entire life for us (especially when they never asked for the role). Besides, unless the villain actually shows his hand, what exactly is Lupe supposed to do? She's not a tracker. If Abuela decided to totally give up a normal life in favour of superheroism, bully for her, but I'm a bit disappointed in her disappointment in Lupe. That's be like us saying doctors and police are bad people for ever going on vacations, or even just celebrating birthdays! At any rate, it seems to me it would be a reasonable compromise for Lupe to go to prom (especially since that seems like a place a villainous student would attack!), but wear her costume underneath so she can quick-change if there's actual word of trouble. We'll see if that's how things go next issue -- and how easily Lupe and Abuela can repair the rift forming between them!
