Credits Writer: Brian Wood Penciler: Jorge Coelho Colorist: Doug Garbark Letterer: Ed Dukeshire Grade: 7 Robocop: Citizen's Arrest is based off the movie Robocop. In this iteration, the company that created Robocop is back in action, this time with an app called R/Cop. R/Cop allows citizens to report a crime for a small fee, if there is a conviction they get five times their money back. Pretty much making everyone a cop, and driving less affluent people to a decaying part of town called the Ruins. One man, a cop named Leo Reza, tracks down the original Robocop and seeks his help.
The story is well-done. We get a sympathetic protagonist in the form of Leo, who is a cop just doing his duty, but lacks health insurance for his pregnant wife, due to the R/Cop. The creator of R/Cop is a suitable villain, looking to profit off his app, destroying others in his way. We also get the original Robocop, Alex Murphy, who has been forgotten and may turn out to be a savior.
There is something of an uncomfortable element to the comic however, in that there is a clear class distinction: most of the higher-class of people are white, with the majority of the lower-class as black. The only visible minority of status is the Mayor and he's portrayed as a stooge of the CEO of OCP. And with Robocop being white, that presents something of problem in my view, depending on how things progress in upcoming issues.
This issue is very solid with the story, dialogue, and characters. The artwork is not quite to that level, with some of the anatomy of the people a little off, but not to the degree that it is really noticeable or detracts from the rest of the comic.
