This issue starts painting a larger picture. Unsurprisingly, it's the US government hidden behind the scenes allowing the Jenkins farm to continue. I'm a little surprised by what this reveals about Andrea's personality and how she handles things. It's frustrating that her dad undercuts her authority in front of subordinates. Given everything else going on, I'm curious if he knows about her arrangement. It's definitely an unpleasant scene. The upside is that when Andrea has another unpleasant scene with some locals at a bar, she gets to beat them up. There's a bizarre parallel between the jerks she beats up and the wolves Zeke has to shoot. I don't follow why it's done (other than the last panel of each scene being the same, which raises so many questions), though the art does a great job of going back and forth to pointedly show us the parallel.
There's a bit of insight into the townsfolks' opinions of the Jenkins family, too; it is unsurprisingly negative. It will be interesting to see how the political angle works in, especially given the two candidates and their respective relationships to the Jenkins.
This is an issue that is mostly building some character and plot aspects. It's a bit slower than previous issues, but in a graphic novel format, I'm sure it will read a bit more fluidly with the overall action.
