Sigurd has a nightmare that ends in him waking up to new strength, a new sword, and a new hair color. Freya, a powerful warrior who helped rescue him from beneath the dragon's corpse, spars with him as a way to convince him to help her fight against other evil's plaguing their land. He declines, till the next village over is attacked.

I enjoyed the first issue, which reads quite well stand-alone. That being said, this is a great follow-up issue that has definitely piqued my interest for reading more.

Sigurd's nightmare and the voice he hears seem to be a portent of something bad, but I appreciate that the two are separate and paced well throughout the issue. It keeps a level of mystery, especially since we don't actually see how Sigurd was found and rescued. What role did this Freya really play in that? His new hair color is fantastic! I love that he doesn't notice till it's pointed out that it's not a practical joke. As for the new armor and sword ... I'm not surprised by the sword, but I'm curious about its potential. The armor is one of those things that's an obvious choice, but I have to wonder how it was made if it's "practically indestructible". How did they cut the scaly hide off Fafnir in the first place, when normal blades couldn't cut him?

I love Freya. She has a great design and attitude. Her power intrigues me, as do her tattoos (and magical markings). I love that her weapon of choice is a battle axe. I was pleasantly surprised with her initial outfit. The next time we see her, she's removed her top (just bandage-like wraps around her breasts) for her trance-mediation and sparring with Sigurd. This seems to be for no other reason than to show off her tattoos and magical markings, which is a valid reason as opposed to just being eye-candy. There's no cleavage or objectification going on -- which is great! And Sigurd doesn't seem bothered or distracted by it. She's just a fellow warrior he's going to spar with, which I LOVE. It makes me love and enjoy this title even more. Thanks, Zenescope! I also love seeing her command her forces and take charge in battle!

The cliffhanger ending introduces a new enemy, but on top of that, Sigurd rushes in, but his new blood-magic sword is stopped like it hit a wall!

Art and coloring are fantastic. I love the playful expressions during the sparring match, and the layout of those panels to maximize the conversation and action.

This series is exciting and action-packed, with characters I really want to get to know better. I can't wait for the next issue.
