Gretel takes a train to a church where Vita is living, while Samuel goes after Dae. Things take a turn for the worse for both Gretel and Samuel, but for Gretel, a mysterious stranger intervenes.

This is a really fabulous cover by Sean Chen and Ivan Nunes. It has the ominous villain-head looking down on the heroine, and the heroine is in a power pose while wielding magic. But it's the details that make it good. We're slightly looking up at Gretel, and it's not a crotch-shot. Her breasts are hanging naturally, which makes her look amazing in that top (a top that I think is a weird / poor design choice in the comic). And we see her armpit, front and center. Who does that? Badass woman who doesn't care what you think -- that's who!

The flashback to the Nazi holocaust was surprising, but fits well with the history Gretel has lived through ... while adding another tick in the column for stories of Nazis investigating / wielding the supernatural. It's used well to provide some insight into Gretel's outlook on life, especially with regard to her being a witch hunter.

An even bigger surprise is how an old adversary makes her entrance. There's a lot of nicely done misdirection in this issue; I really enjoyed every time the tables were turned. The fact that there's a lot of honesty mixed in with the revelations makes the deceit better, while also keeping the plot moving and the main character appropriately informed.

The opening of this comic was almost slow. Lots of inner monologue-ing and similar-pose walking / standing. But when things pick up, it becomes action packed. Gunfire, monsters, zombies, and loss of body parts! Combined with twists in the story itself, the action makes this quite an exciting read. And I'm glad we're about to learn more about the stranger interfering in the witch hunts, especially since they just realized Gretel is a witch hunter and not just another witch!
