Credits Grade: 6 Ranmaru struggles with his feels for Ruka and Goda. Soh tries to get closer to Izumi. Histories are revealed for three characters. Ranmaru, having discovered the truth about Goda, pushes Goda to make a new film.The first third of this volume is difficult to get a feel for what's really going on. There's lots of over-reactions, and it doesn't help that there's suddenly a ton of kids and background chatter because of the puppet show the art squad is preparing. Interestingly, this opening bit is set as a Christmas Eve story, but it's not like any typical Christmas story in anime / manga. There's one street Santa, but no gifts (unless you count the gift of a puppet show) or parties. There's a forced comparison of Ruka and Izumi; there are similarities in their situations and outlooks, but arranged marriage and amnesia are not the same. I am glad that both Ruka and Izumi seem to make a small bit of progress through this volume, but I'm not sure where their stories are going in the bigger picture. The section that focuses on / around the new film student is really used as a set up for Goda's story, which is nicely done. Then, the latter half of this volume focuses on Ranmaru learning about Goda's past and pushing Goda. There's a good blend of humor, especially as Ranmaru becomes uncharacteristically forward and needling. I'm glad to see Ranmaru playing a bigger role, though his story has gotten buried beneath everything else. I do look forward to seeing what Goda can do, but I'm not sure where this story is going in general. Perhaps it's just slice-of-life, and Ranmaru helps others find themselves while he finds himself?
