ISBN: 9781974703043 Grade: 7 The final, epic showdown between our heroes and the singularity David comes to a head in this final volume! With so many people brainwashed to "return to Rukh" (i.e., die and become spirits), can Sinbad pull his allies from the brink of suicide before it's too late to stop a cataclysmic spell?
I missed some volumes, so I was a liiiittle lost, both on the overall plot and on individual character developments (especially given how metal vessels can change people's appearances). Also, as is often the case with this series, it was really hard to tell what was happening during battles, the panels are so very busy (and the costumes so ornate). Ultimately, though, I think I understood it.
This volume has both the epic (and twisty) battles and deep philosophical discussions I have come to expect from this series ... but not quite to the level of awesomeness it's had on either count in the past. I think we get to see pretty much everyone that's been in the series (including a return that had me overjoyed), but because the cast is so very vast, we don't really get much time with anyone, save a few people in particular. (In particular, I would have liked even more time with Hakuryu than we got, even though he did get more lines than many others.) Still, I'm glad to see them at all! I just wish there had been more to the epilogue, more details on their individual lives. In the end, though, I'm satisfied with the overall fate of the universe -- nothing left me upset or angry (which is saying a lot these days, when so many of my fandoms of late have left me bitterly disappointed).
