Credits Writer: Carlos Guzman-Verdugo and Alejandro Verdugo Penciler: Jorge Monlongo Colorist: Jorge Monlongo Letterer: Christa Miesner Grade: 8 Set after the events of the movie, the comic opens with Napoleon Dynamite talking with a school counselor about what he wants to do after graduation. The counselor isn't impressed when Napoleon says he wants to be a cryptozoologist and study beasts and paranormal creatures.
But Napoleon has bigger issues: developing his tracking skills, solving a possible fraud case with his friend Pedro's election to Student Council President, and maybe moving things forward with Deb, another friend from the movie.
As someone who liked the movie, I had no trouble going back to Preston, Idaho's and Napoleon's weird world. We get updates from Kip and Rico and a lot more focus on Napoleon's grandma, who is a hoot and a half in this issue.
While I think Napoleon's obsession with alien and supernatural creatures is a little odd, even for him, the plot of the possible election fraud is a great one. Revisiting a major story from the movie, but also bringing back the conflict Napoleon, Pedro, and Deb had with the snootier kids at their school.
The dialogue and characterization reflects the movie quite well and the artwork perfectly suits the oddball-ness of Napoleon and his world. With some new characters introduced, this comic adaptation is a pretty nifty way to get more Dynamite.
