Candlestick wakes up, but Otts is quick to sedate him and Belle for trying to intervene. Belle is sent on a mission that involves using new underwater equipment. She finds a mansion deep underground filled with spider creatures.

What an odd issue. The part where Otts and her doctors forcibly sedate Candlestick AND Belle is just dropped. Belle takes their half-assed answers and basically says "Oh, okay," and moves on. It seems really important, but it goes nowhere. Belle's best friend, Mel, even says what she had was a "meltdown", which seems incredibly dismissive and a bit sexist. Belle should now have major trust issues with Otts and be demanding answers rather than agreeing to go on a mission for her. And why is Mel taking this all so calmly and seriously and in a manner that says "I drank the Kool-aid"? One thing's for sure, MY guard is raised, and I'm seriously put-out with Otts and Mel. I'm now questioning way too many things for the second issue of the second arc. Where is this going that makes a scene like that important and dismiss-able?

Belle's new suit has some neat aspects, but my appreciation of it was overshadowed by all the events prior to it. I kept wondering what the catch was. What part of this suit designed by the people who just forcibly sedated and restrained her is going to eventually work against her and for them? Trust is broken, but Belle is acting like nothing happened now. And I understand, especially thanks to a flashback of a scene we've seen before, that she feels guilty about her brother and is putting up with some of this to help him (and Candlestick, and innocents who get caught up in these things), but still ....

The underground spider creatures make for good monsters, but the fight scene is short and filled with stiff and awkward body positioning, including when Belle is running away. The "best" panel is a forced-perspective cheesecake panel looking up at Belle's bubble butt and seeing some breast as well.

To say I'm disappointed with how this series if faring would be an understatement. The cliffhanger, though, does make me want to give it one more issue.
