Credits Writer: David Pepose Penciler: Gavin Guidry Inker: Gavin Guidry Colorist: Liz Kramer Letterer: Ariana Maher Cover Artist: Sweeny Boo Grade: 8 Emily suggests being a hostage to help her ex get to the getaway car. One of the guests has a backup phone, and the groom communicates to the police through their only option: Instagram. Everything backfires, and the stakes are raised.
There are some bits of dialogue that are half-classic, half-groan-worthy; it's like the writer could not pass up the opportunity to use some of these terribly corny lines. I love when the Sheriff, stuck with communicating through Instagram, says (while pinching his nose), "Dear God, I hate Millennials". And before you go getting all upset about that, it's quickly followed by the adult (many gens older than Millennials) hostages fighting over the one phone to check their stocks, the game, Candy Crush, eBay, and porn (ah, grandma, still one of the best characters).
I love the vibe of the hostages. They are so not concerned. I love how one woman even heckles the guys with guns, which leads to an argument with her husband about his and hers illegal doings. The guys with the guns get ticked at first, but decide it's just not worth it / he doesn't want to deal with it. It's a really funny scene.
I love the release of the pigeons as a distraction; it's well played. But the real humor in that situation is how the bride and her bank-robbing ex ended right back in the church with everyone else.
This is a solid second issue, and given the cliffhanger, I'm definitely going to read more.
