The House Kittens finish constructing a stadium and are contracted to build a new bridge, but Marmalade forgets that bridges go over water. They have to bring in the Demo Doggos to collaborate and finish the job!
This is a cute, fun kid's book with a solid message about accepting one's own shortcomings and accepting others who are different. I especially love the head dog's attitude. He realizes the prejudice the cats have against him and the others dogs, and he goes with it, doing the busy work he's assigned, hoping that Marmalade will see for himself how good the dogs. It takes a bit, including a LOT of convincing by the other cats, but Marmalade does in fact come around. The best part is, it becomes a true collaboration and not just dogs helping / working for the cats.
That said, I do find it odd that these are cats and dogs in a "real world" setting, with humans gushing over how cute they are yet somehow still hiring them for MAJOR construction and demolition jobs.
The art is cute, but it's a shame that some of the dogs are given permanent goofy expressions (Pug and Chihuahua, I'm looking at you), while the same treatment is not given to the cats. I like the soft watercolor coloring. It's hardback with good quality paper, suitable for kids' handling.
Is it worth the $17.99 price tag? Ouch. No.
