ISBN: 978-1-9747-0931-1 Grade: 7 Sakura witnessed a handsome and charming doctor save a life five years ago, and dedicated her life to becoming a nurse in order to work with him. On the first day of work, she realizes he's not what she imagined, but she's still stuck on him.
This is like a Japanese TV drama. It's everything you would expect, with the only pseudo-surprise being that the stunningly gorgeous woman is already outed as the doctor's sister (and not girlfriend). Basically, all of the awkwardness of the situation is done in this first volume, laying the groundwork as it were. So, that should mean that it's not a series poking fun at Sakura, but a series about a blossoming relationship as she discovers he maybe is the guy she imagined ... just way down inside. There are already several situations at the hospital and otherwise surrounding work that are good for bonding as well as drama.
I love the other nurses, and how they give Sakura a nickname and even start using the nickname she has for Dr. Tendo (Dark Lord). I love Ryuko (the sister); her personality is so nice and genuine. I am enjoying the humor around Sakura and Dr. Tendo's bickering.
The art is very nice, working well with lots of expressions and situations for humor and serious drama.
If you like hospital romance dramas, definitely pick this one up. It's a solid first issue, but I'm curious where it will go from here that's not already been done a thousand times.
