ISBN: 9781974710522 Grade: 8 Rin witnesses his own horrifying birth -- what will this do to his mind? Light tries to convince the order of the truth of the traitorous Dr. Dragulescu. Yuki continues learning about the Illuminati; whose side will he ultimately be on? Miwa tries to get Rin's sword repaired. And Shiemi finds herself in a heavenly place that feels more like a hell.
There were times where I was a little unclear on what was happening -- sometimes narratively, sometimes visually -- but I managed to figure most of that out with a little effort. (There was, though, an instance where a smaller-than-normal font was impossible to read on my Kindle, and a few other times when it was just barely legible). I enjoyed all the storylines, to the point where, each time the narrative jumped from one storyline to another, I would be frustrated to have to wait to see what happens next in the storyline I was just reading! And there were some very intriguing reveals and twist -- including two with Yuki, who really got to shine! I particularly appreciated a really clever and daring use of a contract. And I loved how multicultural this volume was regarding powers and demons! Pheles really got around this volume -- I'm eager to know more about his intent and where he fits into the grand scheme of things. And weirdly, despite a chilling revelation regarding how far the Illuminati are willing to go for their terrible ends, they don't read as "evil", per se -- Lucifer even seems sympathetic! I feel like we're missing some vital bit of understanding, and I'm dying to know what it is!
