ISBN: 978-1-97470-8-048 Grade: 8 Legoshi is confronted by the school's security guard, who wants him to find Tem's murderer. A new herbivore joins the drama club. Meanwhile, Louis is carving his place as the head of the Shishi-gumi, and he has an unlikely visitor. And later, Legoshi is beat up by a mysterious and large animal, so he seeks help from Gohin.
The security guard is an amazing (and creepy) twist! What an unexpected animal with an unprecedented obsession with Legoshi -- it's borderline sexual, which gives the scene a weird, but interesting, vibe. This character is too fascinating! As is Legoshi's reactions to this character. The strangest thing is the sheer size of this animal. It completely hoses any attempt at relative size between animals in this world (which was already having inconsistencies). And yet, this size, coupled with the way the art depicts him, gives this character such presence! You won't be able to put the manga down during this scene!
The new drama club member is interesting -- seeming to replace both Louis and Tem, and yet very unique in attitude and presence. Also, despite what this newcomer says, he seems to be vying for a position of leadership (or at least a position to be adored). Interestingly, Juno, who seemed to be taking over leadership of the club and replacing Louis in the previous volume, is just a background character in these scenes.
I'm a bit let down at Louis' inability to eat meat, especially after the ending of the previous volume, and the fact that deer can eat meat in real life! However, I appreciate how this sparks a show of loyalty and support from one of the Shihi-gumi's top lions. Louis' viewpoint on the dichotomy of the world is interesting and supports him in his new role. The visitor he has doesn't seem to do much for the plot or either character, even as it attempts to make a statement about him; I'm curious how this will play out later.
The cliffhanger is shocking because Legoshi gets beaten down through sheer size and power! Who is this mystery attacker? I have a couple of vying suspicions -- one of them being the mystery character Legoshi has talked to in a previous volume and again at the start of this one (after said mystery character sings a creepy song about eating all the gourmet food that surrounds them). There's a definite mystery forming, but how does it meld with the main plot?
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
