She's lying relatively low with her friend / follower Sally until Paprika shows up with bad news and trouble close behind. It's a quest to save the universe!
In this issue an android under orders from Mordecai kills his human target, but the real treasure target escapes with a young girl, Paprika. She follows coordinates that lead her to Becstar for help, but Becstar has enough trouble on her hands ....
Disclaimer: this comic was lettered by former Tart Joamette Gil.
The art reminds me of things I was reading and watching in the late 90s / early 2000s -- that kind of grungy futuristic look with lots of details. It's not my favorite style, but it fits well with the attitudes of the characters and the feel of the story. It's well done with good coloring, especially when using different types of lighting.
The story is interesting so far. A deadly action scene and narrow escape to start things off is a good hook. The main character is introduced in a way that gives us a real solid feel for her outlook on things. It's also obvious that she's a bored troublemaker, which obviously spells trouble one way or another.
We don't get the same feel for Sally. She seems to just be tagging along, but it's like she's not getting what she expected. We don't get any backstory yet on her and Becstar.
What we do get is Becstar's backstory with regard to her former crew and the talismans they each took on their last big job together. It's important information for understanding who Mordecai is, as well as what the stakes are, but I like that this backstory doesn't give too much away about the characters themselves.
The cliffhanger ending reminds us that anyone can be out-maneuvered -- switching perspectives is a great move by the creators.
If you like space operas that are a little rough around the edges, definitely look this one up.
