Credits Writer: Mark Stanislawski Penciler: Peter DeLuca Inker: Peter DeLuca Letterer: Mark Stanislawski and Tony DiGerolamo Cover Artist: Gill Sanchez Grade: 9 Upon reading the title, I figured this was going to be some comical look at Elvis with a twist of The X-Files — I couldn't have been more wrong. The Elvis Files is a much darker story than I would ever have expected ... and I loved every bit of it! In 1976, Elvis Presley requests a job in the FBI, and after faking his death and a little plastic sugery, Elvis, becomes a bonified agent. Decades later, Elven Patterson (Elvis) is hunting a serial killer. But this is no "ordinary" serial killer; this one attacks every 30 years, stealing the eyes from his victims in order to gain immortality. Time is running out for Elven as the killer stays one step ahead, and to make things worse, Ruben, a reporter, has found him out and wants to tell the world that Elvis really is alive and well in the FBI!
The story blew me away. Partially because I wasn't expecting the story I got, and partially because it was just that good. The art is a little rough and took a little getting used to, but soon I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't much care. Every few pages a new twist was thrown in, pulling me further and further in so that when this issue ended I was ready to keep reading. Whether you're intrigued by the idea of the King as an FBI agent or you're just looking for a good crime story, The Elvis Files is something you should really check out.
