Credits Writer: Jareth Grealish and Evan Young Penciler: Jason Cheeseman-Meyer Inker: CA Aabo and Jason Cheeseman-Meyer Letterer: Jack Nolan Cover Artist: John Forcucci Grade: 8 the forgotten is more than your average superhero comic ... because it doesn't feature some of the stereotypical superhero cliches. No absurd and/or flashy costumes (though he has a costume of sorts), no superhero "slang", no gimmicks. This is a story about a man who also happens to be a superhero. It is about as down-to-earth as a superhero story can get. And yes Mr. Mystery is a rather silly name when you get down to it, but it does work with the story. Clarence is a mystery in that no one knows his past as Mr. Mystery and he's trying to forget it while also trying to solve the mystery of who killed Mindy Flowers. But can Clarence find the killer before an innocent boy is sentenced and before the reporters find out who Clarence really is?
The art is smooth and flows nicely while remaining rather realistic. The characters are really given some depth (even within this one issue!). And everything — whether action, emotional scenes, or flashbacks — serves a purpose. There's no fighting or use of superpowers unless it's needed. It's all laid out so well, and man, what a cliffhanger! If you're looking for something a little different and down-to-earth while still retaining that superhero flavor, try the forgotten — you'll be pleasantly surprised.
