When I first picked Frontier Line up and skimmed through it, I thought it could be pretty good. I mean, it had mecha, a huge civil war on another planet (named Sodom — can't get much more symbolic than that!), and more of an 80s art style —l which I like. However, I was awfully disappointed. Frontier Line contains six war stories that are all linked because they all take place in this huge, very long, civil war. Quite frankly, it's a confusing read.

Since all the stories overlap in a sense, that should have made things easier to follow, but so much time passed, so many of the characters looked alike, the characters seemed to know others in different stories it got rather confusing really quickly. And to top that off, I got completely lost keeping up with who's on what side of the war — and there's only two sides! The story does "end" saying the war is over, but after being so utterly befuzzled, I wasn't sure what to make of any of it.

The art's not bad, but it's not great either. Everything looks too similar. Though the chibi stuff was really cute. And there were random notes from Tagami in various places throughout that detracted from the story as they drew your attention away (it's confusing enough all ready!). Perhaps Frontier Line is better read as six different manga rather than one big graphic novel. But even then, I don't know...
