While this mini-series first seemed like a story about vampires, it's now much clearer that vampires are not the focus at all. In this issue Winick dispatches with the process of becoming a vampire quite quickly. I like his take on the process itself. And the thing about whole pickle slices was worth a snicker at least.

The art, while not particularly my preference, is working well with the story. I liked the pencils, lovely lovely ink, and coloring on pages 2-3. I feel like I see our protagonists face in a lot more detail than his friends, but that may very well just be me. Very rarely do we get to see their faces in close up clarity, to be sure. I did like the change and choice of style for the sequence on pages 16-19.

And when it's all said and done, there are still three more issues of this series to go. Sure, there are vampires in this comic, but don't let yourself think that's what it is all about — I sense that something more wicked is on its way.
