Ok, it's not secret that I adore the comic Fade From Blue and, being a writer, I have a certain fondness for one of the leads, Christa Shermot, because she's a struggling writer, too. She's also the "voice" of Second 2 Some Studios' Free Comic Book Day offering, Christa Shermot's 100% Guaranteed How-To Manual For Getting ANYONE To Read Comic Books!!!. I've been lucky enough to see some of the upcoming FCBD comics and, honestly, this one blows a lot of them away.

While most books are just reprinting stories or showing snippets of different series, Christa Shermot's 100% Guaranteed How-To Manual For Getting ANYONE To Read Comic Books!!!, is doing all this and so much more. The book literally takes stereotypical men and women with their "visions" of what comic books are, and attempts to prove why those visions are flawed.

The cover lists three examples:

The Young Guy Who Thinks He's Too Cool For Comics!!!

The Young Girl Who Never Read A Comic In Her Life!!!

The Older Guy That Believes He Outgrew Comics Years Ago
Plus! The One Person You Thought You Would never See Reading a Comic!

Then claims if you fit any of those types, this guide is for you and will help you view comic books seriously. And, after reading the guide, I have to say it is a very positive way to introduce all the "naysayers of comics" to our world.

The book goes through scenarios and then has examples of the content from the series and how it relates to the "outside comics world." It also lists over one hundred comics at the end and a mainstream equivalent eg. "If you like this ... ask your retailer for this ..." type of deals. Kind of like the Sequential Tart Recommended Reading Lists, which the publisher borrowed some content from with our permission and blessing. The book also features tons of color commentary from Christa Shermot.

It's a very cool edition and I highly recommend getting yourself a copy. The creators were giving it away for free this past weekend at the Pittsburgh Comicon, and you can look for it on Free Comic Book Day at a retailer near you, or try to catch up with the studio at another convention and see if any copies remain.
