Chi is being examined by her kidnapper while Hideki is going crazy trying to find her. Hideki's friends and their persocoms are searching for Chi as well — as much to find her as to help keep Hideki sane. One question more than any other is running through his mind: are Chi's memories real even though they are stored on a harddrive? He believes she is special and different from other persocoms and will do anything to protect her. But time seems to be running out, both for finding Chi, and for Chi to find "the person just for [her]."

The cover is absolutely gorgeous, as is the art inside. The women of CLAMP really have a gift for beautiful art and powerful stories. This volume of Chobits is a rollercoaster of emotion which helps keep the suspense level up. The realizations about the book A City with No People, and for the reader anyway — where they come from are a real insight, but like a good mystery, that insight provides many new questions that need answering.

I complained in volume four about the kidnapping plot twist, and althought I still don't really like it, it did end up doing some amazing things for the story and the characters in this volume. And even though Chi's a computer (and a bit on the young-side), I really want to see her and Hideki get together — which will require Hideki acknowledging his feelings and not caring that she's not human ... because, after all, she's not an average persocom either. Chobits is an exceptional manga series that no one should miss out on.
