ISBN: 1-56931-988-X Grade: 7 Having finished off the entire anime series from ADV, I can continue to indulge myself in the zaniness that is Excel Saga with the manga from Viz! The manga even features stories that never made it to the anime which is icing on the cake if you will. In this first volume Hyatt and Minci join ACROSS a secret organization led by Il Palazzo with the goal of conquering the city of Fukuoka. Needless to say, they're pretty hopeless. With half-witted and overly-enthusiastic Excel taking care of the "missions", ACROSS is doomed from the start. While holding minimum-wage jobs, the two young interns must attempt to (in their own ways) infiltrate various aspects of the city to conquer it from the inside out.
While it's not the same as watching the anime, it is still the same crazy story and characters that are easy to like and even easier to laugh at (or with). Where else will you find such originality with so many parodies of other series? Just remember it's all fun and games till someone gets hurt/killed/maimed ... then it's downright funny! One really has to wonder how exactly Hyatt manages to die so often and still be alive. With the insanity level through the roof Excel Saga will make your reality so much easier to live with. If you love the anime, then check out the manga, and if you've never heard of Excel Saga then you're missing out on the craziest comedy series ever.
