Over the summer, other Tarts were raving about Full Metal Panic! so when I got my copy I was looking forward to watching it immensly. I'm happy to report it was everything they said and more. Action, comedy, romance (well kinda), secrete military and terrorist organizations, beings known as "the Whispered"s, and all in a high-school setting. Sousuke Sagara has been assigned to protect Kaname Chidori form being kidnapped while blending in at her school and not letting her know anything is going on. Having lived in a militaristic bubble his entire life, Sousuke's "odd" behaviors quickly make him stand out, but so far Kaname's more suspicious of any romantic feelings/perverted ideas he may have for her than anything else.

Those "odd" behaviors and her suspicions obviously pave the way for a good deal of the humor in Full Metal Panic!. All of the misunderstandings are based on the rather interesting circumstances Sousuke and Kaname find themselves in. Add to that some running gags and Sousuke's ignorance/gullibility and things just get laugh-out-loud silly!

Always in the background is the serious storyline and the threat of kidnapping. When the kidnapping occurs after an all-clear signal, Sousuke, Kaname, and the rest of their classmates find themselves in a world of trouble. Not to mention that due to his growing relationship with Kaname, Sousuke is not thinking as logically as he normally would. Will that spell disaster? Who knows? This DVD leaves the viewer on quite a cliff-hanger.

Both the sub and dub are excellent! But I have to say, I actually prefer the dub on this one. I'm a sub fan at heart, but there was something about the way the English voices matched and flowed that just worked a tiny bit better so I ended up watching the majority of it as the dub. The art is a perfect fit. It has a beautiful, almost cute quality but with a seriousness to it which fits the humor-action contrasts of the story itself.

This collector's edition contains the first DVD, the collector's box to hold all sevel volumes, and a T-Shirt (which I have worn several times I might add). Go ahead and get the collector's edition; you're going to love this anime so much you'll want the entire series so why not be prepared with a nice box to keep the DVDs in? Whatever you do, don't miss this hot new series!
