While not yet a household name in manga circles, Tohru Fujisawa is fast becoming a cult figure in the land of the free, the home of the brave. At San Diego Con a few years back, he made an appearance and the fans went wild. That should tell you a bit about how involving his comic GTO, about a young teacher who considers himself to be great in spite of his obvious shortcomings, can be.

Whenever I buy a copy of GTO, I chomp it down like ice cream on a hot day. The stories are so outrageous and contain so many cliffhangers that the adrenaline in me starts pumping when I read the series. Sadly, because of this, I sometimes miss the more subtle bits of humor in the work. The broad humor is so arresting and diverting that the brilliant little bits of dialog spoken as asides sometimes get lost in my hurry to find out what happens next.

Sadly, those bits of brilliant dialogue aren't helped by how small the lettering can get. I swear, get out your bifocals when reading this comic.

That criticism aside, it's always fair weather when reading GTO.
