Credits Grade: 8 When I read the synopsis of Blood Shadow, I knew I would have to see it. It is 90 minutes of erotic horror, and believe it or not, it has a real plot. Granted, it's not the most steller plot, but it far outshines most other hentai. In a world where demons ravage any woman they find, it is up to a team of five females and one male known as the Crimson Lotus to hunt down these demons and save and protect women everywhere. Their main competition, the Black Steel may be more harmful than helpful, but they'll have to get past hoards of demons before they get any answers. Will they survive the demons sexual attacks or will they succumb and be destroyed?I was actually a bit suprised when it ended — Rekka, the leader of the Crimson Lotus, only had sex with three of the six women he was traveling and fighting alongside! Normally the guy would screw all the girls at least once and who knows what else (depends on how horny he is). And you really have to wonder how long these sex scenes last in "real time" as the characters try every position imaginable. They never seem to be alone for that long, but they sure get around. There's demons with girls, Rekka with girls, and even a little girl-on-girl action, and it's all rather well done. I don't believe all of those sexual acts/poses are truly feasible, but then again, most of those are done by demons so they don't have to be. The first girl Rekka screws is part demon, and he does it to her despite her protests (though she turns the tables soon enough); the second is just all over him (after her earlier "men are evil" comment); the third is his love, Tsukikage, who he believed killed by a demon and is currently covered in scars/wounds. My favorite sex scene has to be after Rekka kills the demon Burai and Kureha is all over him. While it's a hardcore scene, they seem to take it nice and slow — almost romantic. It's one of those scenes you'll want to rewind and watch again. The battles are bloody but are over too quick (though I guess I can't complain to much as the point is the blood and sex). I recommend watching it subbed. While most of the English voice actors do well enough, some are too awful to listen to. The Japanese voices overall are much better. It may sound better because the Japanese seiyuu try harder to make the characters in an adult anime sound as good as any other anime whereas the English voice actors would either wish to be voicing something else or are trying to make it silly. The animation quality is excellent! The eyes aren't enormous, neither are the breasts, and the only dicks that are belong to demons. The plot unfolds at a good rate, and the whole thing is separated into three "episodes" of thirty minutes each. The extras contain character sketches, storyboards, an art gallery and more. Those are some awesome extras to have on a hentai DVD. I don't think I've watched one with any extras other than previews/trailers before so it was a nice treat. Blood Shadow is a wonderful adult anime on so many levels. I only wish it continued on with more episodes. If you're looking for a good hentai, check this one out. And if you're relatively new to the genre this is a good one as it has story with its sex. Written: January 25, 2004
