I was going to give it a 6, but I was amused enough by it that I gave it a 7. If you're looking for a good story with lots of action go watch Ninja Scroll, but if you want a good laugh at a B horror flick Japanese style then watch Dragon Blue. A beautiful spiritualist, Mayuko, is sent to investigate some unlucky happenings that may be caused by evil spirit. During the investigation she learns the truth about her past and who she is as well as an ancient legend about a sea monster. Detective Ryusaki is also on a case in the same village to find a missing gem. Their paths cross as women start disappearing and their male escorts end up dead. Together, they must uncover the truth behind the attacks and stop this evil before it's too late for them all.

It's only in Japanese with English subtitles — no dub here. That's perfectly fine with me, I just wish the actors weren't so stiff! Hiroko Tanaka is beautiful and Keiji Mutoh is both built and handsom (they make a good couple), but that's about all either has going for them. The action sequences are very hokey as are the special effects including the sea monster's suit and Mayuko's dragon-self. However, the part where Ryusaki is getting attacked by many zombie girls had me laughing out loud. Here he is, this huge guy (wrestler in real life), using an electric stunner on zombie girls till the batteries die and then fighting hand to hand ... and losing! Oh, he eventually gets away in time to briefly help Mayuki before getting beat down again. That and the fake spiritualist's antics were the best part (for comedy).

My DVD says 15+ on the back, but ADV's website says 17+. This movie has actual sex as well as sexual situations in it so it should definitely be for 17+. The actual sex scene has no real purpose in the movie and it's with one of the ugliest guys — the fake spiritualist. Ick. Who wants to see that? It's supposed to be a horror movie, but there's nothing very frightening about it. I enjoyed it though, and it's only 75 minutes so I didn't "waste" any time watching it. If you like B horror or Japanese monster movies then check it out, otherwise it's probably not your thing.
