Translator: Grade: 8 The last DVD concluded the first season of Neo Ranga. Things aren't over yet though! The Shinambara sisters are back in Japan with Neo Ranga and have declared their area of Japan to be independent — a part of the Barou Kingdom. America is siding with the sisters, but Japan is against them ... and then there are their other enemies with access to Kyoshin (gods) to attack them and Ranga! It's hard to tell who's friend and who's foe anymore...
There' a new opening and closing which are pretty good, but I prefer last season's. The DVD contains eigh 15 minute episodes plus a bunch of extras including some very informative translator's notes. Even though the episodes are short, they are so action packed and so numerous that it seems like you're getting more than your money's worth.
This series is exciting! It combines the best aspects of the Japanese giant monster films and animation; together, a story of gigantic proportions and heart is created. The sisters work well as a team but can stand well enough on their own, the main support characters are actually important to the plot, and Neo Ranga is one of the most creative creatures I've seen in any anime or movie. The animation itself is top-notch, and both sets of voice actors really bring their characters to life! After a while the English started to grate a little bit so I switched back to the sub, but it is well done. Neo Ranga is sci-fi/fantasy that has a good blend of action and humor with a dose of reality. If you haven't seen this series yet, you're missing out!
