Mitsuki loves to sing but has cancer in her throat. When two Shinigami turn up during her last year of life they decide to help her reach her dream of being a famous singer. Takuto, the cat Shinigami, says he loves Mitsuki, but when his old lover and memories swoop back in it causes some problems. When he breaks his date (unintentionally) with Mitsuki she gets really sick and her secret is exposed to some. Then to show their love for her pure spirit and heart Takuto and Meroko dare to save her from her death sentence ... which could mean the end for them.

I read this volume after watching the first volume of the anime. So I've missed volumes 2-5 and reading the "story thus far" had quite a few spoilers for me. However, knowing those spoilers as such didn't ruin anything for me. I am quite sure that I will enjoy reading and/or watching those volumes regardless. The manga is just as wonderful and cute as the anime. A couple of the character designs are slightly different (i.e. the doctor looks much younger in the manga and not quite as sexy with just minor differences in face, eyes and hair. Reading this, I was aware of how much the first volume (of the anime) had endeared the characters to me. While there are some new characters at this point I still felt very well conected to all the main ones.

Full Moon is pure shojo bliss. It has all the right elements with beautiful art, powerful and moving characters, and a dramatic story. The eyes are definitely on the large side which may be a turn-off to some readers, but they are actually so striking and so full of emotion that their large size was a turn-on for me. With the importance of souls in this story it is fitting to have such large and detailed eyes. I can't recommend this series enough — I am undeniably in love with everything about it.
