The wicked witch has a new warrior — a beast that has an incredible bloodlust. Dorothy wakes up in the Munchkin village where they decide she should go to the Emerald City. It seems there is a prophecy that fortold her coming and what she'll do, but the Munchkins only tell her part of it.

Finally we get a little face time with the villain (well, one of them anyway). We get to hear a little more about what's going on in Oz as well as her plans, and her terrifying beast. *shudder* The descriptions of what the beast is doing works quite effectively for instilling fear ... much moreso than showing it would (though we get a shadowy hint!) The part with Dorothy and the Munchkins is a necessary conversation, but really quite boring — you do get to see Dorothy in a variety of poses in just her slip though which may be a plus for some readers.

I do love the mix of photography and art to create the images in Dorothy. My only complaint is that sometimes a single picture is used to carry a conversation back and forth. This works sometimes, but other times, the conversation changes tone (i.e. becomes argumentative from placid) and the emotions we're seeing don't change so it doesn't fit any longer. But it's a new and daring style that really works for this story so I try to overlook that. This is definitely the series to pick up if you want to see something new and different with how comics can be dome visually and/or you like twisted takes on Oz.
