ISBN: 1-4215-0480-4 Grade: 8 Nana K. has a nasty break-up but is quicky (if somewhat) cheered by the arrival of her front row tickets to see the band Trapnest! She asks Nana O. to go with her and then finds out from Yasu that Ren of Trapnest used to be in their band and he and Nana dated and were very close. It seems they still love each other. Nana K. is determined to get them back together with this fateful concert, but will Nana O. be happy or mad at her interference?
I really wish I'd gotten into this manga sooner. I adore the art - espectially the punk/rocker looks and scenes and the fashion in general. The art is amazing with outstanding eyes, hair, body movement, and clothes - but I'm super impressed by the detail of some of the outfits (I can imagine what a pain it was to draw the black leather outfits of Nana's band - but such a wicked effect!). Yes, there's a fair amount of the romance drama typical of shojo, but with the hard edge of the rocker scene and the characters in those roles it's not your typical shojo - and I like it! We get fashion (including lots of piercings!) and music, heartache and romance creating a world I love to escape to. If you're tired of all the typical manga stories out there and want something real cool then grab a copy of Nana.
