Rating: R Grade: 6 Notes on a Scandal was about a very bitter old woman and the way she exploited the weaknesses of those around her to manipulate them like pieces on a chess board. Of course, as with most puppet masters, things came to a head and all of her carefully laid out plans were exposed, leaving her with just about nothing at the end. It was a very diabolical movie that showed how someone could use and abuse those around her with a callous sense of entitlement that almost will have the viewer believing she is in the right for all the actions she has taken.
It was very different. It was very disturbing. There were so many layers to this film, and so many things happening within its context, that it would be tough to sum it all up succinctly. There was much more to this story than just the tale of a female teacher's indiscretion with one of her male students. It was quite a tangled web of deceit, fear and loathing. It was interesting how it all was woven together and played out on the screen.
