Tsuna is a typical loser at junior high. Picked on by all the guys and laughed at by the girls. He fails at nearly everyhing.

Then one day, Reborn shows up at his door. He's a pint-sized mafia assassin who looks to be 5-6 years old, but packs a mean gun. Reborn is there to train Tsuna, who is next in line to become the next mafia boss of the prominent Vongola family.

Tsuna disbelieves Reborn's story until he sees Reborn in action. Reborn helps Tsuna gain status in school, primarily by shooting him with a "Deathperation bullet" a special bullet that gives the the shootee astounding abilities. They are literally able to do anything as if their life depends on it, and it does.

Reborn also help Tsuna get the girl and several schoolmates who become his devoted mafia associates who dedicate their lives to Tsuna.

I found the story straightfoward and understandable, the artwork alright and the most of the characters okay. I wasn't real impressed with Reborn himself. He reminds me a lot of a "Mary Sue" type character. All-knowing, remarkable abilities, providing just the right trick out of the hat to get Tsuna out of a jam. He's just too perfect, and is given little emotional depth or range, and he is given annoying quirks that emphasizes that he is little beyond a baby.
