ISBN: 978-1-4215-0999-0 Grade: 9 Yuri, a teenager from modern Japan has been transported to the world of Ancient Egypt by the evil Queen Nakia. She is saved by the Queen's stepson, Prince Kail and Yuri is declared the next incarnation of Ishtar. She and Yuri fall in love, but both are in danger as the Queen is determined to ensure her own biological son takes the throne.
In this particular volumn, Yuri is pregnant and Kail sends her to a place where he things she will be safe. While on board the boat, it is sabotaged and Yuri is cast overboard. A loyal servant of Kail saves her, but they find themselves in a desperate situation nevertheless.
This is my first experience with Red River and I wished I had started at the beginning. Not because I was confused about things, but because this manga is so darn good. I was able to fall into the story quite easily, and developed an attachment to Yuri and the other characters in no time. I really cared about what happens to Yuri and the others, a tribute to the story and artistic skill of Chie Shinohara in telling the saga of Red River.
