Gary Reed is a longstanding writer of comics and books, mostly based on history and literature. He has also written short stories, scripts, and storylines for video/RPG games.

Of Scenes and Stories is a collection of excerpts from his long career as a comics writers.

This is a pretty extensive sampling of comics written by Gary and illustrated by many many comic artists. The sheer variety of subjects and themes of what Gary is fairly astounding. Past, present, future. Historical, Alternate Universes, supernatural. And each sampling is very rich in thought, if not always in action. Each excerpt is preceded by written page of Gary describing the origin of the comics, the themes explore, the connection with the artist who drew it. They were very well-written and informative.

Like any anthology, some comics worked for me, others don't. My favorite of the collection is Baker Street, a punk version of the Sherlock Holmes stories, with two women in the Sherlock/Watson roles.

Regardless of what you like in comics, you will find something you like in this. I can pretty much guarantee that. A must for Gary Reed fans or any comics fan who wants something more to bite into than the typical superhero stuff. Sin City aficianados might find a lot to appreciate here too.
