Rath's demon side is unleashed. He then tracks down Rune and awakens the demon fish Varawoo, placated within Rune. Originally brought back to finish sealing the gates protecting Nadil's head from the demons, he betrays the Dragon Clan and steals Nadil's head. Is he up to something or is he really ready to resurrect Nadil for all demon-kind? Only time will tell.

I'm torn with my opinion of this volume. Normally, I'm 100% behind this series, but this volume left me confused. I would like to point out that it also happens to be one of the most gripping volumes yet! See my indecisiveness? Rath has magically appeared back at the Dragon Palace...how? We don't know. Upon awakening, his demon side is unleashed...sort of. It's difficult to tell if it's Rath's awakening as Fedelta, the fire demon, or if Rath's awakening has materialized Fedelta so that both are standing there together. I'm just not sure what's going on, and the art doesn't help as it goes back and forth between the two characters separately and then shows images of them together.

While the confusion detracts some from the read, it has a quickly accelerating climax, heart-pounding battles, and tension from inner conflicts. Much is going on with the minor characters in this volume too, so fans will finally get to see some growth, even if it's short-lived. Mineko Ohkami's beautiful, stylized, and unique art style really brings life to these characters, and the drastic yet subtle changes to their eyes can shift a character from good to evil in a single glance. It's beauty to behold, especially if you're looking for something different. Not a volume to jump in on, but definitely a series worth reading.
