Dr. Helen Magnus is a 150-year-old scientist, xenobiologist, cryptozoologist and probably a bunch of other -oologists. She runs a enormous gothic estate called Sanctuary. She researchs odd happenings, seeks out strange beings and offers mutants, aliens or other odd beings a safe place to exist from the dangers of an uncomprehending human society.

She is helped in her efforts by her kick-ass daughter, Ashley, computer/tech geek Henry, and the newest recruit, forensic psychologist Dr. Will Zimmerman. Most episodes revolved around finding unusual people and helping/rescuing them from whatever situation they are in.

An interesting premise that doesn't quite entirely work. Part of the problem is that is basically a 'freak of the week' show so far. And in the unusual nature of the how the show is shot. Large chunks of the scenes are shot in front of a green screen, with the inserted background being weirdly immense, gothic or ultra-urban buildings and landscape. Its a gothic fantasy set on top of an urban, gritty environment and it does not always mesh well.

The actors and characters are all fine, if not knocking my socks off. My main interest is Dr. Will Zimmerman, who I find very cute and vulerable and dreamy. Whether or not such shallow desires will sustain me in the long haul is anybody's guess.
