About the closest I can come to describing Rufus is part folk, part pop, things that are often looked down upon by one clique or another. Yet I haven't met anyone who's heard Rufus and not at least liked him — most seem to adore him! Count me among the adoring. Rufus has a voice that melts like butter in grits, at once smooth and yet raspy. The man could sing the ABCs, and the room would go silent.

I heard this album over a year ago, but had never gotten around to buying it. I'm glad I waited — it's been re-released with a bonus track, a cover of Across the Universe, which was used for the Sam I Am soundtrack. I'd point out specific songs I like, but in truth, I love the entire album. There's not a song on here that I only tolerate listening too, much less one I would rush to skip on the player. I guess, if anything, I'd have to say it was Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk that first caught my attention — but then, it may also simply be the first song I'd heard of his. I also find One Man Guy sticks in my head an awful lot. But I heartily recommend you listen to the entire album!
