Ben Gates must clear his ancestor's name in the assasination of Abraham Lincoln. He follows clues all over the globe before finally getting the answer in a very American place.

Oddly enough, this movie was partially shot in and around Mount Rushmore, not far from where I live. I remember the excitement from local folk and media over the location shooting.

Despite that, I was not really motivated to see this movie in the theaters or on DVD until now — and that may have turned out to be a good thing. I was disappointed with the second National Treasure outing. I'm not sure precisely why, but the clues leading from one location to another seem far more tenuous and absurd. And given the fuss about the local color, it takes up only a small fraction of time compared to the entire movie.

The acting was barely okay and so was the action. It simply isn't as interesting a movie as the first one. Perhaps the novelty wore off long before the movie was shot.
