Ender's Shadow is set in the future in a post-war city called Rotterdam. Over fifty years and there is still rationing and many children forced to live on the streets.

Bean, a small, but very fierce and intelligent child, hooks up with a gang run by Poke, a young, tough girl. He convinces Poke to try a different strategy in obtaining more food for herself and the others in her gang. Later Bean catches the eye of nuns who run a food kitchen/shelter. Noting he has unusual qualities, they plan to send Bean to somewhere else and to someone else who is unusual.

I very much liked this series. While I am mostly unfamiliar with the Ender's series of books, that is no barrier to understanding and enjoying this comic. You are immediately immersed in this strange, gritty, yet completely understandable world. The artwork and coloring reflect it. A very good start and I am eager to read the other issues.
