I'm not sure what I expected from the final installment of Fairy Cube, but this wasn't it. I also expected it to be a longer series than three volumes, but now I'm glad it's not. Ian is using a stolen body and a special fairy to stop Tokage from taking over his life and trapping him in another world. Added to that is the challenge of stopping the door to the fairy world from being opened, but little do their know, both Ian and the fairy with him are the key's to the door! They have been used, but there are other innocents coming to light. The truth about these twins is unveiled ... but still doesn't seem quite right to me (Tokage still should have had a body of some kind!). I felt this ending was a bit of a cop out. Suddenly, there's all this other conspiratory stuff going on that comes to the forefront. Suddenly, there are all these other figures at play, and the ones that were here already have new roles. Um, did I switch which story I was reading?

I love Kaori Yuki's art style. It has wonderfully expressive eyes and a dark, gothic feel to it. In this particular series though, it is downplayed or normalized for all these average humans and only the fairy and her protector have any real distinguishing look to them. That coupled with the shift in story that happened to wrap things up, I actually lost interest earlier than halfway through this volume. Thankfully, there was a bonus story that picked up some time after this series ended, where the new and improved Tokage and Raven are sending fairies and spirits back through the door to the fairy world (with as little human suffering as possible). It's good to finish out a story, just don't expect to be wowed in a good way with this one.
