ISBN: 978-1-4278-1445-6 Grade: 5 Keidai is a high school student who is also the reincarnation of an Italian warrior who died during the eruption at Pompeii. Also reincarnated is his best friend Serizawa, who is now a girl. His sister and former rival have also been reincarnated into the form of his parents.
What drives the comedy and plot in this series is the fact that not only is Keidai the only one to remember his former life, Keidai's soulmate and wife, Serena, has been reincarnated as a young boy, Yuuma. Keidai struggles with his attraction to Yuuma, who resembles his former wife, and with the fact that Serena is now a boy.
I thought this was a great premise for a series and it does provide the potential for a great deal of humor resulting from this strange situation. However, this volume is a bit of a confusing mess as there were times where panels depicted some sort of alternate dimension. I had no idea what was going on there. Also the idea of these characters being reincarnated is repeatedly mentioned throughout the manga, which annoyed me. I believe I grasped the idea the first time around and didn't need multiple reminders. The flashbacks were sufficient to reinforce the the concept.
If story and artwork were a little less busy and more straightforward, then the humor and drama about dealing with the gender reversals could have been given more depth and meaning as well as being funnier.
