I've read this first volume of Peacemaker Kurogane and I'm still not entirely sure what it is about. This title does appear to be set after events of some other title or volume, according to the writer. But without that 'prequel' I have no idea what the situation is, or the plot, or what the characters mean to each other. I can manage to gather that it is about the Shinsengumi, the police force of the city of Kyoto.

There is fighting, killing, a same-sex relationship, and odd cat-creatures. The most obvious thing is a stranger coming into town to challenge the status quo. That is the one thing that I could clearly grasp. I really can't make too much heads or tails of the characters, their relationships, or the point of this series, so it was difficult for me to enjoy this or recommend for other first timers. There were some pages that were clearly drawn and inked different from other pages, but I don't really know why.

Those who are familiar with whatever came before this volume might have better luck enjoying it.
